Bruce Porter

Bruce Porter is a consultant to leading companies on developing and deploying Artificial Intelligence. Previously (2019-2024) he was the Chief Science Officer at SparkCognition, which focuses on applying AI to the industrial sector. Before joining the company, Bruce was a Professor in the Computer Science Department at the University of Texas in Austin. He joined the faculty in 1984 with a focus
on research and teaching in Artificial Intelligence. Bruce served as Chair of the Department from 2009 through 2017. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the NSF Presidential Young Investigator Award, the Best Paper Award from the National Conference on Artificial Intelligence, and the President's Associates Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Texas. Bruce earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science, specializing in Artificial Intelligence, in 1984 from the University of California at Irvine.

He holds a dual degree in Accountancy and International Business from Loyola Marymount, complemented by an Masters of Science in Information Systems and Technology with a focus on Geographic Information Systems from Claremont Graduate University.

Bryan is the owner of DataSmith Pro, LLC, a company that helps accounting, tax and financial professionals leverage technology to increase the quality and efficiency of their services.   
  
Bryan has extensive knowledge and experience in proper Excel design techniques as well as helping CPAs build spreadsheets that are accurate. As a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), he has spent a considerable amount of time auditing and validating thousands of Excel spreadsheets. He has developed various data analysis and Microsoft Power BI courses and has worked with multiple organizations to train and coach staff on proper data analysis techniques.  
  
Bryan holds a Master of Science in Information Assurance, is a member of the Information System Audit and Control Association and is a past chair of task forces for the Michigan Association of CPAs.

Thomas Achor

Tom Achor began his accounting career as an intern at Coopers & Lybrand, later working two years in audit there as well as two years in small firms. In 1993, he started his own business doing outsourced accounting services and software consulting, which he has evolved ever since. After 28 years, Tom decided to return to public accounting when he merged his accounting technology practice with Sensiba San Fillipo in April 2021.

When not in business mode, Tom and his wife Anne enjoy racing outrigger canoes and escaping when they can to Ashland for shows at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

Damon Runberg

Damon Runberg is the Economist at Business Oregon. He supports the statewide economic development goals by tracking and analyzing economic indicators critical to Oregon’s workers and businesses. He also evaluates the effectiveness of Oregon’s economic development strategies and incentives. Prior to working with Business Oregon Damon was the Regional Economist with the Oregon Employment Department for the East Cascades of Oregon for nearly 12 years.
