Why do you want to become a CPA? What aspects of the profession are you most passionate about?
I want to become a CPA so that I can serve others in a career that fits my interests and strengths. I was drawn to the idea of becoming a CPA because I have always liked working with numbers and details. I am also excited that the profession allows me to continually learn new things.
How will you define success as a CPA?
I define success as doing my work to the best of my ability. It can be tempting to try to measure success based on money or position, but I care more about building trust with coworkers and clients. I believe that continually striving to do my best will help me to feel fulfilled and to be seen as dependable.
Do you have any mentors? Who do you look to for advice and/or support?
My academic advisor at Corban, Dr. Bryce Bernard, has helped me tremendously in planning out my next steps along the journey to becoming a CPA. He is always open to talking with his students, and I have gained valuable insight through our conversations. I am also extremely grateful for my family. They encouraged me to pursue this career in the first place and have been my greatest supporters along the way.
Tell us how you achieved one of your most recent professional goals. Who or what helped you reach this accomplishment?
At this point, my next professional goal is to gain some practical skills in tax and auditing. I have accepted my first internship position which will begin in the summer of 2024. I was able to make a connection with the firm by attending the OSCPA Career Showcase on September 28. Dr. Bernard helped me by making me aware of the Career Showcase as well as the different firms in the area I could apply to. This is a great first step, and I am looking forward to the experience I will gain from it.
