Was it worth it to get your CPA credential?
I think earning the CPA credential is one of the most valuable accreditations that can be earned in business. There is a clear differentiation from the simple title of accountant, controller or CFO. The credential speaks to dedication, determination, and specialized skill set.
Who inspires you?
I am inspired by my wife. She is a rock star. She wrangles four young children alone all day long without complaint and still has a smile when I arrive home each day.
What do you love about your job?
I love the individual responsibility and finalization of products. I am responsible to complete my projects in a timely fashion, but get to see them through to the end instead of being a cog in a much bigger wheel.
How has being an OSCPA member and chair of the Young Professionals Committee benefitted you?
Being on the committee and chair this year has opened many doors of communication and opportunity for myself and my company throughout the state that had previously been unexplored. I have enjoyed a broadened scope to the CPA profession as a whole where I had historically been wholly focused on the company I was with and not the profession on a macro scale.
What would you say to someone deciding whether or not to become a CPA?
The CPA credential creates ease of access to many opportunities that otherwise would be unavailable. The vast array of opportunities cannot be overstated as there is potential to work within every sector of business or even to work as a CPA servicing the public. By becoming a CPA you are securing a career path you can make your own, is well compensated, and is needed during both strong and recessive economic times.
