Was it worth it to get your CPA credential?
Getting my CPA license was well worth the effort. Not only did I get a promotion at work, but I feel more confident when communicating with clients now that I have the CPA credentials. I feel like the clients respect me more and are more confident in my work when they see the CPA designation after my name.
Who inspired you along the way?
My husband, who is also a CPA, was one of my main inspirations for getting my license and advancing in my career. My children were also a big inspiration because I wanted to set a good example by working hard to pursue my goals. They were very encouraging and cheered me on all the way.
What do you love about your job?
I love being able to help clients with their financial needs. My favorite part of my job is auditing and preparing audited financial statements. I take pride in my work, and it is fun to create professional financial statements that our firm and our clients can feel good about.
How has being an OSCPA member benefitted you?
Being an OSCPA member has benefitted me by being a great source of information and continuing professional education, which I need to maintain my license. There are many CPE options to choose from and the member discount is valuable. I like to read the Accounting Connect newsletter and the quarterly magazine. I also enjoy reading the Bridge Open Forum Digest that comes in my email.
What advice would you give a new CPA?
Don’t stop working hard now that you have your license. Continuing to advance in your career can make your job more exciting. There are always client issues that arise that you can learn from so you can continue to grow and be more valuable to your clients and your firm.
