Was it worth it to get your CPA credential?
Yes, getting my CPA credential was definitely worth it. All the hours I spent studying and attending classes to earn my CPA credential helped me learn a lot about accounting. I apply the things I learned every day at work. Getting the CPA credential was also a great way to celebrate all the hard work I had put in. I believe being a CPA will provide me with many opportunities as I continue in my career.

Who inspired you along the way?
My classmates from the University of Oregon MAcc program have been a big inspiration during my CPA journey. It is very motivating and comforting to have a group of people that are all working towards the same goal. I appreciated being able to share my struggles and successes with my classmates during the CPA exam process.

Many of my coworkers at Jones & Roth PC also inspired me during my CPA journey. I would often have a big textbook on my desk when I was studying for a CPA exam and my coworkers from all different levels would notice and ask me how studying was going, share their own experience of becoming a CPA, and offer encouragement. These moments reminded me of my end goal and encouraged me to keep working hard.

What do you love about your job?
My favorite part of my job is that I am constantly learning new things. I have always loved learning and it is something that makes me feel fulfilled and excited. I appreciate that I work at a firm where I am given the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and try new things.

How has being an OSCPA member benefitted you?
The OSCPA has provided me with many resources to continue to learn and grow as a CPA. The OSCPA CPE courses have helped me gain the skills I need to be a successful accountant. I have been able to find classes that directly relate to the skills I need for my projects at work. OSCPA events have also given me the opportunity to network with other CPAs that I may not have met in my day to day role.

What advice would you give a new CPA?
My biggest advice would be don’t be afraid to try new things because you never know what you will learn or what opportunities will come when you step out of your comfort zone. I would also suggest asking other CPAs about their CPA journey because I have learned a lot from the experiences of my coworkers and their advice has helped me throughout my career.
