Was it worth it to get your CPA credential?
Yes, it was definitely worth it.  It allowed me to be promoted to Manager, and it will help open doors later in my career. It is a great personal accomplishment, and by studying for the exam, it really increased my knowledge of the accounting field.

Who inspired you along the way?
Many people inspired me – past teachers I’ve had, my co-workers, and my family.  But, the one who inspired me the most was my mother. Although she was not a CPA, she knew that the best thing I could do for my career was to become licensed, and she motivated me every step of the way.

What do you love about your job?
I feel like every tax return is a puzzle, and I enjoy working on puzzles. So I get to solve puzzles every day. This is also one of the few jobs where you are always learning something new. I also enjoy working with everyone here at McDonald Jacobs.

How has being an OSCPA member benefitted you?
A major benefit of being an OSCPA member is having access to all the support and CPE that OSCPA offers. You also get to be part of a larger community of professionals.

What advice would you give a new CPA?
Although it requires a lot of time and effort, you will experience the rewards of being a CPA throughout your career. I also recommend developing a system for tracking the CPE you take, and to take the CPE throughout the year, so that filling out the renewal application is an easier process.
